To create an inspirational and energising working environment within Transport for London’s new award winning eco friendly building, Palestra. The move marks a new era for TfL, a disparate organization coming together under one roof with a joined up ambition. Our challenge was to bring the vision and values of the organization to life, making each floor of the building feel different but part of the same story.
Carrying out multiple stakeholder workshops enabled us to rewrite the organisation’s strategic document as a series of genuinely motivating mission statements to live within the fabric of the artworks.
We created an umbrella concept called ‘Our future London’ which informed graphic branding over 8 floors and allowed the walls to behave as an internal communication tool, helping unlock TfL’s latent pride. By using semi transparent vinyl, we harnessed the natural light in the space to punch out colour and strengthen the impact of the graphics.
The design affects key touch-points of a journey through the building. Entry walls to each floor each represent a different chapter in the TfL story. Inside each floor, London is brought to life on the meeting room’s glass walls. We reveal snippets, glimpses of journeys and the modes of transport that make them happen.
The artworks set the agenda for TfL going forward, as all eyes turn to London for 2012.
“The artworks enable us to work and think differently by helping us to see things differently. They are visually striking yet subtle impressions of the work we do.”
Cary Rueda, Head of Communication Services, TfL
“The dynamic artworks at Palestra reflect TfL's brand values and have set the benchmark for other offices in the TfL Group.”
Innes Ferguson, Group Design Manager, TfL
