Watergate Bay in North Cornwall is a surfers haven, home to Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen and the venue for Veuve Cliquot’s polo on the beach tournament. Its spectacular views and vibrant active social scene give the area a unique atmosphere. Household was briefed to combine all the elements that make Watergate Bay so special in the Hotel – the beach, the sea and the beach sports. We were briefed to appeal to guests all year round, giving them an active relaxation experience when with friends or family.
The design approach was to consider how guests could feel free to create their own space, to dispel formality, and to make invitations to guests with warmth and charm throughout the entire environment – ensuring the experience is uniquely Watergate Bay. The ‘beach’ feel flows throughout the space with bright striped walls, distressed sawn timber floors and acres of gigantic views through picture-frame like windows.
The new space now features:
• 25-metre ocean view infinity pool,
• Café-bar situated in the new living space – ‘The Ocean Room’
• Cardio room with exercise machines and views over the infinity pool and bay
• Treatment rooms, plus a manicure and pedicure booth for two overlooking the bay
• Surf in – surf out with air-dry lockers and showers
Sarah Page, Creative Director at Household says “Our design approach offers guests an environment that gives that something extra, something that invites you to leave the chaos behind. You’re taken on a journey to discover what fits your mood, whether that’s hideaways, social hubs, lookouts, foodie treats, feet-up, snooze spots or sun-spots.”
“We were really impressed by Household’s approach to the design. They’ve worked with us to successfully reflect that feeling of understated luxury and comfort, right on target with our core customer. Collaborating with Household and the architects Stride Treglown has resulted in giving our guests an experience that will underpin Watergate Bay Hotel as the perfect choice for a year round escape.” Watergate Bay published in Dexigner
