The value of wellness tourism cannot be overlooked by the hospitality industry as the market is now worth $639 billion (GWI, 2019). With the rise of conscious consumers in the midst of our climate change crisis, Group Strategy Director Michelle Du-Prât discusses the influential role brands play in setting a sustainable standard. Michelle states that “brands have the expertise and trust to be more powerful than political leaders and countries in the global climate crisis”, making them the real leaders for change.

In 2020 the “travel industry will be underpinned by slow travel and eco-trade offs which will result in more people seeking experiences closer to home.” This creates opportunities for brands to provide hospitality offerings that cater to this new travel mindset. From choosing staycations over vacations and switching from plane to train, “people are no longer looking for the cheapest holiday deals but instead the eco-friendliest options.”
