Fairmont Miramar

A modern barber with a traditional twist in the heart of the hotel

The Fairmont Miramar, Santa Monica, is evolving to meet the needs of the local community and guests by re-thinking its hospitality, beauty and retail to offer true ‘placemaking’ destination experiences. Household has been part of this experience design journey, and was asked to design a new grooming space for Lloyds Barbershop tailored to busy, modern lifestyles and as well as embodying the timeless elegance that defines the hotel.

Fairmont barbershop

A barbershop that reflects what men are looking for today

We focused on the wants and needs of the modern male customer: style, convenience and desirable levels of service experience. The contemporary design is inspired by the traditions of a barbershop creating a touch of nostalgia.

Heritage and quality are inherent in the design. A fresh, masculine green smoke interior contrasts with the stone marble bar top and brass detailing. American walnut shelving brings warmth to the space and connects the design language to the retail arcade parquet floor beyond the space. A ‘wall of fame’ showcases the Fairmont Miramar heritage and displays hero styles to inspire customers.

Service experiences are designed to meet the needs of the busy, stylish man beyond barbery, from free WiFi to charging pods and a drinks trolley bar. A vintage ‘medicine’ cabinet showcases shoppable products, creating a new avenue to drive revenue. Products extend beyond beauty and haircare to limited edition items and partner lifestyle brands.
